Former State Senator and TMA Member Recognized for Legislative Work
NASHVILLE, TENN. - Former State Senator Bill Ketron (R-Murfreesboro) and new Tennessee Medical Association (TMA) member, Ethan Kellum, MD, were recognized by Senator Ed Jackson (R-Jackson) on April 16 for their work on SB 2586. The bill, which passed in the recent legislative session, regulates stem cell and regenerative medicine therapy in Tennessee.
This bill authorizes a physician to perform stem cell therapy that is not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) if the therapy is used for a treatment or a procedure within the physician's scope of practice and is related to orthopedics, wound care or pain management.
Dr. Kellum and Senator Ketron received accolades from Senator Jackson for their work, input and assistance in getting this legislation passed. Their combined legislative efforts improved and expanded the ability of physicians in Tennessee to effectively treat patients.
