Medicare Pay Reform: Proposed Cut of 2.8 Percent Shows Need for Urgent Action

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently published a proposed 2025 Medicare physician payment schedule that indicates a 2.8% pay cut. This continues to prove the urgent need for Medicare pay reform. This proposal follows a 1.69% Medicare pay cut in 2024 and 2% drop in 2023.

The American Medical Association (AMA) is leading the charge to reform the Medicare payment system, which is the AMA’s top advocacy priority. Learn about how you can take part in the fight to fix Medicare on behalf of your patients and practices at the AMA's Fix Medicare Now website

“As a Tennessee physician, engaging with your congressional representative is essential to stopping Medicare cuts and keeping your patients protected and practice doors open,” says George Woodbury, MD, a Dermatologist from Codova, Tenn. “Because commercial insurance payments are often linked to Medicare payments, we are at serious risk of our services being devalued across the board. The AMA is working on getting co-sponsors to H.R. 2474, a resolution that will stop these cuts by tying Medicare fees to the Medicare Economic Index. We need all physicians working together to get support for this bipartisan bill. Just five minutes of your time can make the difference.”

The Tennessee Medical Association urges members to take action and join in the effort to fix Medicare. Contact your representative in Congress and use your voice to spread awareness.
