TMA Signs Letter to Oppose ECAPS Act
TMA recently joined the American Medical Association (AMA) and a coalition of national and state physician organizations to sign on to a letter to Congress opposing H.R. 3164, the “Ensuring Community Access to Pharmacist Services (ECAPS) Act.” The legislation aims to inappropriately expand the scope of practice of pharmacists by authorizing them to perform Evaluation and Management services, and diagnose and treat patients for conditions like COVID-19, flu and strep throat. The letter emphasizes the need to preserve the physician-led, team-based care model to protect patient outcomes and maintain high standards of care across the healthcare continuum.
